20% Discount For Full Settlement Of PTPTN


NATIONAL Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers can expect a 20% discount off their loans if they settle in full by Sept 30 next year. Those who fail to meet the deadline are entitled to a 10% discount if they have been repaying their loans consistently.Fresh graduate Zamri Kassim said the discount would spur people to settle their loan.

“It’s hard to manage your finances when you’re just starting out in the workforce, so every little bit of help counts,” he said. Lecturer C. Kumar said the PTPTN administration costs must be done away with.
“Since the PTPTN is a government body, it should absorb the administration fees as well,” he said.

Malaysian Institute of Baking academic board chairman Dr S. Thiagarajah said the PTPK loans should be available to students who did not qualify for PTPTN loans.

“Not everyone is academically inclined. It will be a waste if we don’t tap into the talent of those who are good with their hands.”

The Government also plans to allocate RM500mil to provide skills training for 3,200 Indian youths in estates.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Institute of Ethnic Studies principal research fellow Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria said it was commendable to assist the neglected section of the society.

“Industrial training and job placement may be the best option to prevent these displaced youths from engaging in anti-social behaviour.”

The schooling assistance of RM100 for all primary and secondary school students will also be continued.
